I feel I lived June in a somewhat ‘holiday mode’. We battled the heat; calling for nothing more than to keep cool in any way we could (fans really did a lot of the heavy lifting!) We took to the road on a few trips up and down the country. Having been up to Cumbria and across to Wales, we enjoyed days along the coast and beside the lake. And we simply enjoyed a slower pace of life. That’s not to say we didn’t create beautiful memories, we had some lovely days out! But this post is certainly on the shorter side because of it.
Days Out & Activities:
- Beach Day at Llandudno – Having visited this seaside town last month, we knew we wanted to go back to Llandudno and take full advantage of their beautiful beach. During the heatwave, we packed up the car with a picnic and our swimsuits and heading out for a full day lazing on the sand, and swimming in the sea. With the changes of the tide, we were glad to have arrived at the beach in the morning to enjoy the sea levels in all their prime; it was deep enough to swim and the waves were gentle. By mid afternoon, however these had really started to lower, and we could do no more than simply dip our toes in. Despite the interesting tan lines we came home with, we certainly felt we made the most of the hot weather this day!
- Ennerdale – With a venture up to Cumbria for a family wedding, we used this as the perfect opportunity to take a trip to Ennerdale Water and hike along some trails. Being away from the tourist hotspots, this area of the Lakes can often feel so peaceful and hidden. We parked in the Bleach Green car park, and walked part way along the lake loop before diverting onto a woodland nature trail. So much wildlife was seen here, and we felt glad to have taken the camera. Whilst we hoped to capture a shot of the red squirrel, it wasn’t meant to be, but we were lucky enough to spot a small rodent (perhaps a mouse, shrew or vole) scattering from her den in the undergrowth.
Hobbies and Interests:
- The Adoption Den – I’ve been running a small online store for a few months now, with the primary mission to encourage second-hand buys instead of new. It’s a store that focuses on all things animal. We rescue and rehome soft toys, sell pre-loved books and also jigsaw puzzles. Building up a brand can take time, but I feel like it has started to slowly make it’s way off the ground! I’ve enjoyed the process of this side project and have made an effort to revisit it’s Instagram page to connect with others. (If you’d like to know more about TAD, you can click here).
- Travel Friends – In the many years I travelled, I formed many friendships with fellow solo travellers – especially those I met on group tours. Most of which live in different countries, and even different continents! So when a friend I met on the Antarctica cruise back in 2023, messaged to say he was planning a trip to the UK, we made a plan to catch up properly over a pub dinner. The hours flew by but it was such a nice evening reminiscing on our trip, listening to his current travel plans, and hearing what each of us were getting up to now. A lot can change in life in just a few years!
