My posts have been quite ‘fictional character’ heavy recently, and I suppose what’s one more! In the first of my collection series, I want to share my Disney collection. It’s made up primarily of Limited Edition Dolls, as well as some plushies and books too. I was a big Disney doll and plush collector back in ~2016. I’ve owned many of the heirloom, fairytale designer, and even animator dolls in my time. But as I’ve grown, I’ve tried to streamline the collection somewhat and instead, focus purely on my favourite characters.
Dolls:
Each doll holds so much craftmanship and beauty; with a couple even looking as if they’ve stepped straight out of the movie! So in order of when I purchased them:
Elsa – Being my favourite character, and at one point owning her in every dress variant (even going as far as buying a custom ‘Into the Unknown’ dress to complete her wardrobe!), she was the hardest character to downsize when it came to it. But in the end I opted to keep just two. The first being the ‘Show Yourself’ doll: which in my opinion has the prettiest face mould, the nicest hair, and represents my favourite song in the movies.
The second one being the 10th anniversary edition of Elsa in the iconic ‘Let it Go’ dress which was released as a set with Anna (who I later sold). This Elsa is a really stunning doll – I’d even go as far to admit I prefer her over the original 2013 version in terms of face mould, lashes, hair and dress!
Alice – Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland is my favourite adaptation of this beloved classic, and I was sad to see the Disney Store not release a doll from the first movie. This particular doll is from the Through the Looking Glass collection in which she wears the eccentric, colourful tunic top and trousers. And whilst that outfit wasn’t my preference, I knew I’d still love to own a Mia Wasikowska doll. So imagine my delight, when I stumbled on a custom ‘Alice in her first-movie blue dress’ doll listed on Vinted – I certainly couldn’t leave her behind!
To commemorate the original Disney animation of Alice in Wonderland, I do also have the Fairytale Designer set released as part of the Heroes vs Villains collection; depicting Alice and the Queen of Hearts. This one is one of my newest purchases and one I’m glad to finally own. Alice wears a beautiful floral apron upon her dress and the embroidery detailing across the whole set is just exquisite. It’s these Fairytale Designer dolls which actually kickstarted my doll collection journey back in 2016!
Merida – This was one of the dolls I had in my original collection but parted with during a downsizing declutter. Yet one I thought about a lot in the years that passed. To me, there was never a more beautifully-made heirloom doll than that of Merida. Her outfit has so much detail, texture, and components, and you can truly see the craftmanship that went into making her. I was fortunate to find her up for sale on eBay for a great price as she didn’t have her box. I didn’t mind this too much as I love to appreciate the textures and designs more thoroughly anyway, so buying a de-boxed version of her wasn’t a problem for me. It also meant she didn’t take up too much space! I’m just really happy to have her back again.
Peter Pan and Wendy – This Mattel set is based on the Peter Pan & Wendy live action film on Disney+. Again one of my favourite adaptations from the original book. Being standard range dolls as opposed to limited collector pieces, their outfits are much less detailed. I still appreciate the design choices for each though; they’re pretty movie accurate and have very articulated limbs – making them a great choice for photo props and poses!
In addition to this, I also have the Fairytale Designer set of Peter Pan and Captain Hook from the same series as the above Alice and the Queen of Hearts. Also a new addition, this was the last to complete my set of Disney dolls. The detailing on the clothing as well as the positioning Disney opted to put them in make them a really striking set of dolls, and I’m really happy to have found this one up for sale again.
Plushies:
My Disney plush sit so perfectly in the little wicket basket and have brought me so much joy since I bought them. Elsa was from Build a Bear and is the one I’m the most attached to – I got her stuffed in store and she has a song chip in her paw too. Then we have Wendy, Alice, Merida, Bolt and Piglet who are all from the Disney Store. I love how they’re each so different in terms of their design and sizes, yet bring so much comfort when needed.
Books:
The majority of my book collection is made up of the ‘Art of’ books which give behind the scene extras and concept art during production. These are really informative and interesting if you’d like to know more about your favourite films and characters. Each one was bought secondhand. I then have a collector’s edition of Peter Pan (based on the animated movie) and my childhood copy of Winnie the Pooh.
I love how all of this has come together over the years of collecting, and I still have the few pieces from my childhood (like my late dog’s Bolt bowl and carrot toy, as well as my cross-stitch of Piglet which was given to me as a child). Each item tells a story, or is symbolic of my favourite Disney characters and I’m so happy to own every single piece.
